“While distributing the pamphlets and stickers, we realised that very few people are aware of the fact that in the absence of traffic lights, the traffic on the right must be allowed the right of way,” said Traffic Advisory Council member Ajitsinh Gaekwad.

Along with others, he has been working to streamline the traffic in the city.

Interestingly, it was Gaekwad who had been studying traffic patterns for the last 40 years in India. “Unless the rules are enforced on the commuters, it is not followed. On the other hand, you will still see people rushing out of their houses without even waiting to see if there is a vehicle coming from the right side,” added Gaekwad.

In his 40-year study, Gaekwad has found that most accidents occur when the basic rule of right hand first is not followed. "Vehicles will increase; roads will be bad, but if one basic rule is followed by the people while driving, it will bring down the accident rates,” he added.
