Kolkata The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) has strongly reacted to Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakrabarti’s remarks that the state government will withdraw all government services from the Hills after March 7 if residents abided by the Morcha’s diktat of not paying taxes.

“ If they dare to withdraw all services, they will have to face the music,” GJM press secretary Binay Tamang said. As part of its ongoing non-cooperation movement in the Hills, the Morcha had earlier declared that it would collect taxes and deposit these in the party funds from March 7.

“If all the services are withdrawn, the GJM will stop generation of power by the NHPC in the Hills, affecting the power supply to Siliguri and other areas in the plains,” Tamang said.

He blamed the Left Front for trying to creat a rift between Gorkhas and tribals in the Dooars. “A vast majority of tribals support the demand for inclusion of the Dooars in proposed Gorkhaland,” he added.

The Morcha leader stated that the demand for inclusion of the

Dooars and Terai in Gorkhaland cannot be compromised under.

Incidentally, last week the Morcha had agreed to call off its fast-unto-death in Garubathan saying it would desist from holding rallies in the Dooars as requested by the state government.

The Morcha has also called off the shutdown of government offices in

Darjeeling since Monday but has stated that it would not allow the district administration to collect tax and other revenue.
