Global recession is the new challenge: Kiran Bedi

Pune "Every one has to think global recession is a challenge posed to the nation and work accordingly keeping agriculture at the centre-stage. It is also important that agri-management schools are started at village level," said Kiran Bedi, Magsaysay awardees and first woman IPS officer of the country.

“One has to work hard and with sincereity to contribute to the country. The country has to lay more focus on agriculture sector. For that she came up with a plan of having agriculture management courses given to school children, adults and women in the villages," she said at function at Karla

"The government in support of the local villages should concentrate on the sectors like diary cooperatives, horticulture, this will sustain and help in growing the livelihood of villages and make them self reliant. For this, corporates have to come forward to adopt villages and make them self reliant," Bedi said.

Bedi was felicitated by the Pune-Pimpri Chinchwad Shramik Patrakar Sangh president Nandkumar Saturdekar. The progamme was also attended by the directors of JSPM Prof Tanaji Sawant, Dr Pramod Vitkar, Prof M D Salunkhe, Dr Manimala Puri, Dr Rajshree Shinde, Ravi Sawant, Vijay Sawant and Rajesh Kamat from MTHR group.

Before addressing a session on “Trans Forming People” organised under Horizon 2009 by JSPM in celebration with MTHR, Bedi also interacted with the media.
