Chandigarh, March 6 The UT Administration has decided to introduce the residency system in all the specialties, namely surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology and pediatrics, in Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16.

UT Home and Health Secretary Krishna Mohan said 20 Senior Residents (SR) have been sanctioned, out of which 13 have already joined.

The remaining posts will be filled shortly and the department is considering further increasing the seats from 20 to 30 so that the hospital’s emergency and routine services are further strengthened, he added.

Mohan said the Administration has also decided to introduce three super specialty departments in the GMSH in order to reduce the burden on the PGI and GMCH-32.

A sum of Rs 50 lakh has been sanctioned for the purpose. The three departments approved are cardiology, urology and neurosurgery.

Twelve senior residents will be appointed at par with the criteria of the PGI at these specialties, he added. The urology department has already started functioning with one DM urologist.
