GNGC annual athletic meet begins

Ludhiana, January 31 The annual athletic meet of Guru Nanak Girls College started at the college today with a colourful programme.

Dr GS Wander, Head, Department of Cardiology at Hero DMC Heart Institute, inaugurated the two-day event in which students of all streams are showcasing their talent with enthusiasm. BK Rampal, a lawyer and Congress leader, was the guest of honour on the occasion.

President of the college Gurbir Singh and Dr Charanjit Mahal welcomed the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Wander said that educated women play an important role in the development of the country. He exhorted girls to carve a niche for themselves in the field of their choice.

The meet began with march past, in which students of various undergraduate and post graduate courses took part. Deepti Rani, an athlete, took the oath. The chief guest hoisted the college flag and declared the meet open. Several sports events including the 800 metres race, javelin throw, 1500 metres race, shot put, high jump, 200 metres race, skipping race, discuss throw, long jump, three legged race etc were held.
