GNPS-36 emerge as champions

Chandigarh A fine display of batting by Gaurav (65) and an all-round performance by Gurinder (22 and 3 for 34) enabled GNPS-36 rout DAV-8 by a huge margin of 69 runs to clinch the 3rd inter-school cricket tournament for boys under 19 for the Advisor's Cup being played at Sector16 Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Elected to bat first, GNPS-36 piled a good total of 234 runs in their allotted 40 overs losing eight wickets. Gaurav and Anil Sihag played with patience and scored 65 and 60 runs, respectively. Later Gurinder and Anshul contributed to the total by chipping in with useful 22 runs each. Ankit Kaushik was the only bowler from the DAV-8 who bowled an excellent spell and claimed 4 for 36.

In reply, DAV-8 could not resist the disciplined bowling of GNPS bowlers and were eventually bundled out for165 runs in 37.5 overs. Ankit Kaushik and Prashant were the only batsmen to score 49 not out and 40 to take their team to a total of 165. Gurinder was the bowler from the GNPS side who wreck havoc and scalped 3 for 34 while Naveen took 2 for 21 to finish off the proceedings.
