Ahmedabad A 40-year-old Godhra train carnage accused, Iliyas Sikandar Giteli, died following a major cardiac arrest at the Civil Hospital on Monday afternoon.

Giteli had complained of chest pain in the morning and was immediately rushed to the hospital, Sabarmati police said.

Giteli's wife Rehana and sister Taheera, who had reached the Civil Hospital premises by 2 pm, alleged that Giteli died because of negligence on the part of jail authorities.

"My brother would have survived if he had been brought to the hospital in time. We will lodge a formal complaint in the matter," Taheera said.

According to police, Giteli was arrested for his alleged role in the Sabarmati Express Carnage case in 2003 and was lodged in the high-security Sabarmati Central jail since then.

Sabarmati police have filed a case of an accidental death and are investigating the matter.
