Ahmedabad The Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly, Shaktsinh Gohil, on Friday, accused the Gujarat government of misleading the people about the Central funds to the state.

He said Chief Minister Narendra Modi was raising the false bogey of ‘injustice to Gujarat’ for his short-term gains. “The state government is exploiting people in all ways,” he said.

He said the Centre has provided gas to Gujarat at a rate of Rs 11 per kilo, which it sold to the industry at Rs 23 per kilo. Even after the reduction in the price of gas, the government is selling it to industry at Rs 15.90 per kilo, he added.

Gohil said the government must express gratitude to the Centre for this generosity, but it always criticised the Congress-led UPA government. He said though the contract to provide gas to the state-owned Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation ended in April 2008, Gujarat was still getting gas.

Referring to the controversial issue of oil royalty, Gohil said the incumbent government at the Centre had given much more royalty to Gujarat than the previous NDA government. On an average, the state got Rs 14,490 crore per year during the UPA regime as compared to Rs 614 crore during the NDA rule.

He said the Centre had allocated huge quantity of gas to Gujarat from the Panna, Mukta and Tapi gas fields. “However, by selling the gas at higher prices, the state government is exploiting Gujaratis,” Gohil added.
