Relevance of Sangeet Natak in today's era is a topic that might draw all sorts of opinions from the theatre fraternity. But not many can deny the irreplaceability of Sangeet Nataks in the history of Marathi theatre, which, for decades, dominated the theatre scene in Maharashtra earning the period the status of – the golden era. Documentation of the transition of music in Marathi plays, is not only important from the point of view of keeping a record but to take notice of the glorious past that we have had. Naman Natawara, a CD that portrays the journey of Marathi Sangeet Nataks will be launched on February 6, at Garware College Auditorium.

Conceptualised and produced by Sarita Wakalkar and scripted and directed by Madhavi Vaidya, the CD, in two-and-a-half hours, takes notice of the important events in the history of Marathi Sangeet Nataks from Vishnudas Bhave to the most recent- Awagha Ranga Ek Jhala. "We started working on the concept in October 2008. My husband was a great fan of Natya Sangeet and I thought this would be the most appropriate tribute to him. Our contribution to the Sangeet Rangbhoomi, this CD with the help of clippings, narration and interviews is a documentation of the golden era," says Wakalkar.

Naman Natawara includes interviews of connoisseurs in the field of theatre such as Chittaranjan Kolhatkar, Prabhakar Panshikar, Faiyyaj, Jaymala Shiledar, Ramdas Kamat and so on who have not only witnessed the era of Sangeet Nataks but also contributed in making them timeless classics. "One of the memorable clips is the interview of Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, who in his own words unveils the journey of Sangeet Nataks," smiles Wakalkar.
