A few days after irregularities had been found in the applied science paper of first year engineering course, now it is the turn of the polymer chemistry paper for the third year polymer engineering stream. It has come to light that paper setter had set 90 marks paper instead of 100. Since the results of engineering have already declared, the question arises as to how the marks for this paper were calculated?
The polymer chemistry paper was scheduled at November 29, 2007. As there is only one college in the University of Pune, which offers polymer engineering, the number of students is very less. "The fact that only 90 marks paper was set, has came in light when I got a copy of the question paper," said a source from the University of Pune. The Indian Express is also in possession of the photocopy of the question paper. There are six questions in the question paper. Each question carries 15 marks and the total stands at 90.
Another fact, which the source has pointed out is question 1a and its option 1b have almost same answers. This has happened for the questions 6a and 6b also. "It is also found that the question paper was set by a non-qualified teacher. We are take up the matter with the vice chancellor tomorrow," the source said.
When contacted, sources in exam department said: "I don't know about this very paper. But the normal procedure is the exam panel, chairman of the panel and head of the central assessment programme (CAP) come together after the paper checking process and they rectify the indiscripancies. In this particular case, the marks would have been converted to calculate out of 100."
