It may be recalled that in the first year applied science paper, there were same questions, which had appeared in the internal examination paper of Sinhgad Engineering College. The paper setter was from Sinhgad College. This was brought to light on February 1 following which the university immediately set up an enquiry committee to investigate the matter. Prakash Wani, dean of engineering faculty was heading the committee.
The Wani committee submitted its report on February 10, which was then handed over to the Lapses Committee.
The committee, which came out with its report today, recommended not to allow S F Khairnar, the paper setter from Sinhgad Engineering College, to set any question paper in future. "The Board of Examinations has accepted the recommendation," said Vice-Chancellor Dr Narendra Jadhav. He agreed with the Wani committee that while it was certainly a lapse in duty by Khairnar, it could not be considered as leakage or malpractice.
The Pune University Teachers Association (PUTA) had also raised objection to the appointment of Wani as chairman of the fact- finding committee.
PUTA had claimed that Wani was associated with Sinhgad College as a management council member. Jadhav clarified that as a rule, in such cases dean of the concerned faculty is appointed as the chairman of the fact-finding committee. In this case, Wani is the dean of the engineering faculty.
