Kolkata The government has earmarked around four sites for the proposed National Security Guards (NSG) hub.

A delegation of the NSG will arrive on Monday to hold a meeting with officials of the state government in this connection. The meeting, which will be presided over by Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chak-rabarti, will be attended by NSG officials, state Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen, Director General of Police A K Vohra and other senior officials. District magistrates of North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, West Midnapore and Burdwan will also be present in the meeting.

The state government has short listed areas around Dum Dum airport and Kankinara and Kalaikunda airbases for the hub. “Initially, we have selected a few places around these areas. The DMs have also been asked to come up with ideas,” a senior government official said. He, however, ruled out the abandoned Tata Motors site at Singur as one of the options for setting up the hub. “We do not want any controversy,” he said.

An initiative of the Central government, the hub will be set up on 1,200 acres of land. Chief Secretary Asok Mohan Chakrabarti had said the state government will have to identify the land by March 31. “There are other states vying for the project. So, we will have to find the land and hand it over to the Central government within this fiscal year,” Chakrabarti said.
