One factor is clear that only government schools are failing as compared to private school. The surprising factor is that if we see the qualification of teachers then government schoolteachers are far more qualified than their private counterparts. So, where is the problem?
The problem first of all is political interference as politically influential people are exploiting the situation. Under the prevailing scenario, the performance of a teacher does not deciding his/her promotion. It is political linkage. Instead of improving their performance, teachers spend most of their time in cultivating political connections. And those who do not have any political clout stop working because they feel demotivated as they are never rewarded. Once a teacher is employed, he/she wants to be transferred to the station of their choice because they know that they will get salary at the end of the month irrespective of the fact whether they work or not.
So where is the accountability?
To cope up with this, government should put efficiency bars into place. Every teacher should be given a specific time period to cross one bar and so increment to be calculated accordingly. This way the promotions will be done according to selection and work rather than seniority. And hence to a great extent corruption can also be controlled.
Secondly, let every government school have a local management wherein parents should be made part of the deciding or monitoring body. Let the selected people of the area whose children are in the school be part of the management. All the Kendriya Vidayalas have one local management and that is why, they are doing wonderfully well.
The time has come for the so called 'elite educated people' to join hands and work for the uplift of the education standards in our state. There is no use in cursing, lets raise a voice together and take the first step firmly and wholeheartedly to improve it further.
