Ludhiana Punjab Governor General (retired) S F Rodrigues arrived late at the state-level Republic Day function in the city and in his absence Chief Secretary Ramesh Inder Singh had to hoist the national flag at SCD Government College on Monday morning. The governor came after the CS had completed the guard of honour.

According to sources, Rodrigues was informed by the district administration on Monday morning that owing to dense fog, his helicopter cannot land in the city. The governor was left with no other option but to travel by road.

In the process he got late and missed a major part of the function where he was the chief guest. According to the protocol, the chief guest for the Independence Day and Republic Day is supposed to arrive in the city on the eve of the function.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Harnam Dass Johar expressed shock over the late arrival of the governor.

This act on the part of the governor, who also was a former army officer, was never expected, he added.
