Kolkata At the Marble Hall of the Raj Bhavan, staff members lined up to greet Gopal Krishna Gandhi on Friday — the last working day of Gandhi as Governor of West Bengal.

Gandhi met each of the staff members, shook hands and exchanged pleasantries.

“It was the Governor who had expressed his desire to meet the staff members, and accordingly we gathered there. He asked us about the nature of job that we do, our problems, if any. He is a gentleman and we were all bowled over by his charm. Some of us almost cried when he shook hands,” a staffer told The Indian Express.

Gandhi’s term comes to an end on December 13. He will be hosting a tea party on Sunday in which Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will be the chief guest. The Centre, meanwhile, announced that Bihar Governor Devendra Kunwar will hold the additional charge of West Bengal Governor from December 14.

In Raj Bhavan, Gandhi’s belongings are currently being packed. “He has got about 1,000 books and they are being packed,” said a member of the Governor’s staff.

He will be leaving Kolkata on Monday.
