Gandhinagar State Chief Secretary D Rajagopalan said the state government has sought more funds from the Centre to create infrastructure under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

The state government has sought more funds and resources for taking the schemes to rural areas in the state, Rajagopalan said.

A report circulated in two volumes at a meeting of all state chief secretaries called by the Union cabinet secretary to review implementation of economic stimulus measures, said Gujarat has done excellent work under infrastructure programme of NRHM.

The report of NRHM, the scheme launched in 2005, notes that Gujarat has utilised 117 per cent funds under NRHM flexible pool for 2008-09.

Rajgopalan also sought support from the Centre in making available funds for infrastructure and social welfare projects

being implemented in the state.

The report noted that health is a state subject and therefore, the process of sector reforms in health have to be led by the states and union territories.
