The government said it had already requested the Centre to decide on the realisation of money from Dutta, a retired IPS officer. IG (welfare). After hearing the petition filed by Islam, Justice S P Talukdar had held on June 25, 2008 that the inquiry conducted by the State Vigilance Commission against him was not legal. Justice Talukdar had also directed the state government to pay Re 1 to Islam as compensation for harassing him.
The Calcutta High Court had also asked the state government to realise the money from the person who was responsible for such illegal inquiry against Islam.
