It will also help in maintaining the revenues of the state IT industry in face of falling profit margins owing to the weakening US dollar.
“The 20 to 30-acre park will come up at Rajarhat. The investment will be a few thousand crores,” said Das. He was speaking at a press meet at the IT department office in Kolkata today.
The park is scheduled to come up on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and work is expected to commence this year, added Das.
The IT department is also stepping up its efforts to rope in partners for the proposed wireless and animation hub at Rajarhat.
Das said a Danish company — Wireless Innovation Platform (WIP) — has agreed to participate in the WiMAX hub in the state.
The minister also briefed the media about the outcome of his trip to Europe, along with other state IT department officials, from January 22 to 29.
Das attended an investment seminar in London and visited various cities in UK, Germany and France extolling the advantages of investing in Bengal.
“International Trade Advisor of the London International Trade Team, Sabe Tibbit, assured us that she will visit Kolkata in April, along with a delegation of leading IT companies and venture capitalists from Europe,” said IT secretary Siddharth Sen.
“We also want Kolkata-based companies to be considered for events at Munich in Germany, where IT companies are thriving in a cluster model of development. We will send a list of interested participants for such an event in Munich on March 5 by the middle of February,” he added.
The current workforce in the state’s IT sector is 55,000. Das said this figure will reach 2 lakh by 2010.
