Patiala Sidhu had recently alleged misuse of government funds by MC councillors

The state government has reinstated Patiala Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner H S Sidhu and asked the Patiala divisional commissioner to intervene and resolve his differences with local councillors.

Sidhu, who was transferred from the post of commissioner on February 6, had alleged misuse of government funds by local councillors.

Sources in the PMC said that on Tuesday, Divisional Commissioner Jasbir Singh Bir visited the MC and arranged a meeting between the councillors headed by Mayor Ajit Pal Singh Kohli and Sidhu.

Sidhu told Newsline that he has joined office and will work for the betterment of the city. “I have no differences with anyone and all pending works would be completed on time,” he said.

On his visit to the city a couple of months ago, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had announced grants worth crores for all 50 wards. Sidhu later visited some of the wards and said that funds worth Rs 13 crore could be saved if works were carried out only where required. “Works costing Rs 6,957.89 lakh have already been granted to various contractors, but the actual expenditure comes out to be around Rs 5,637.67 lakh, which means more than Rs 13 crore could be saved only if the required work is done,” Sidhu had said. His opinion did not go down well with the corporation councillors who approached the government seeking his transfer.
