During the meeting on Friday , it was decided that a magisterial-level officer would accompany the Central paramilitary forces deployed in the town on election day, Sen said.
Newly-appointed state home secretary Ardhendu Sen said Vohra will submit his report on poll-preparedness on Saturday. Voting in Nandigram was postponed to January 5 last month.
Earlier, the CPM leadership had alleged that the prevailing situation in Nandigram was not favourable for free and fair polls.
As a result the Election Commission had deferred the election citing security reasons, which was earlier scheduled for December 27 and asked for the deployment of BSF and CRPF.
Ashoke Guria, CPM district committee member of East Midnapore, said, “The situation in Nandigram has improved after the deployment of BSF. Now voters will be able to cast their votes.”
Guria also alleged that Left supporters have been threatened by Trinamool workers. Denying the charge, District Magistrate Choten Lama said no untoward incident has happened in Nandigram in the last few days. Many CPM leaders like MP Lakshman Seth had criticised the CRPF during the panchayat poll in May last year. He complained to the EC against Aloke Raj, DIG, CRPF for their partisan role during the panchayat polls.
