Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta, who led a team of Left Front ministers to Salua near Kharagpur, the base camp of the EFR, to attend the cremation of the slain personnel, said the government would provide the compensation in four to five days.
In case of death of a policeman in extremist violence, the compensation money given to the family is Rs 15 lakh. The family also continues to receive salary of the slain policeman till the time of his retirement.
And in case the family stays in government quarters, they will be allowed to stay there till the time of retirement of the dead policeman.
This package has also been given to the family of Kanchan Garai and Sabir Mollah, the two police constables of Lalgarh, who had been allegedly abducted by the Naxals on July 30 last year and have been missing since then.
The state government also provides for job for one of the dependents of the policeman killed in extremist violence in case the man is married.
But in case of Sujoy Ghosh, the policeman killed in Barikul of West Midnapore district by Maoists in January, chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, whom the family of Ghosh met at his office, promised that he would grant a job to Ghosh’s sister.
“The finance minister has told us to arrange for the compensation soon and we will act accordingly,” Ardhendu Sen, state home secretary, said.
