The letter was sent after a conference on internal security, addressed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, in Delhi on December 20.
Listing the internal security threats, the letter had sought comments from the states.
Despite being in Delhi at the time, UP Chief Minister Mayawati had not attended the meeting. A cabinet minister had been deputed to attend instead.
Tuesday’s terror strike forced the state government to dig out the letter and the Director General of Police Vikram Singh was directed to prepare a detailed report.
Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh, who visited Rampur on Tuesday along with Mayawati, convened a meeting today to review the security situation. DGP Vikram Singh and other senior officials of security, intelligence establishment and the home department were present. Another meeting has been slated for Friday.
Home department sources said the meeting reviewed the security of the CM, governor and other VIPs and security of vital installations. The progress of measures taken by the state government after the November 23 serial blasts were also reviewed.
