Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely today said, "They (private schools) must not take any unilateral decision to hike tuition fees. We will find a solution to the issue."
Lovely said the government may propose slabs for different categories of schools. "We will consider factors such as financial health of schools, profile of parents (among others) before deciding a hike for a particular school," he said. Hinting that the government will take a sympathetic view on the private schools' demands, he said the Education Secretary was examining suggestions of the S C Bansal Committee, formed to look into the fee hike demand.
The committee, which submitted its report last week, recommended a hike depending on the financial status of parents and schools. In effect, it suggests parents of children in top schools pay more tuition fees, with the proposed hike ranging between of Rs 50 and Rs 500.
