“It feels great to have your work recognized in such a way. I had taken up cudgels with the government in power in the state to restore some academic discipline and regularize the session in the varsity. About 350 people were thrown out from the varsity campus for indulging in goondaism and some 90 new courses introduced during my tenure,” Singh revealed. “It was after action taken by me that the Delhi University also took action against some of its rowdy elements. These should at no cost b allowed to hold the academic session to ransom. A varsity is a place for academics. I tried to ensure that research and science got a boost and that classes were held regularly in the varsity.” Asked how he felt about the present UP government revoking its earlier decision and announcing students’ union polls, Singh said that by announcing polls to be held in accordance with the recommendations of the Lyngdoh panel directives, they had only reiterated his stand. “That was exactly what I had been trying to arrive at. But holding students’ union polls should not be difficult now. I have ensured that the varsity was id of all its miscreants before I left. It should be smooth sailing now, he reassured.
