We play fly-on-the-wall at the green room of the Star Screen Awards and find out what the stars really think

Twinkle Khanna, who was presenting an award after a long time, was understandably nervous. She double-checked the categories she had to present. “I’m not as professional as the others, I have lost touch,” she smiled. Not her looks though; she still sizzles, and how! Dressed in a flowery green gown, the yummy mummy can give top heroines a run for their moolah.

Gul Panag sat chatting with her co-presenter Anurag Kashyap for a while but soon got restless. “If there is still time for my category to come up, let me see the show, I don’t want to miss it,” she said and breezed out of the room. Ditto Koena Mitra, who wanted to catch the performances from the front seat, no less.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walked in with her mother for company as she waited for her turn to do the honours. “I’m shooting for Robot with Rajnikant, Mani Ratnam’s Ravana and now I have to make time for the promotion of Pink Panther,” she let on about her hectic schedule. She was ecstatic when Ashutosh Gowariker won Best Director and couldn’t wait to congratulate him.

When Priyanka Chopra was performing, Jeetendra and Ramesh Sippy were in the green room. Looking at Priyanka’s svelte figure, Jeetendra couldn’t help exclaiming, “Nowadays, everyone has only one goal, to become reed-thin. Can you imagine a thin Madhubala or Nargisji?” he asked Sippy. Incidentally, the Jumping Jack, as he was popularly known, still maintains a slim-and-trim physique himself. “But I was fat in my younger days,” he pointed out with a smile.

Jaya Bachchan, who was to present an award with Amar Singh, joked that she shouldn’t have been sent with him on stage. “You are so boring, I was hoping to get some exciting company,” she teased him.

John Abraham’s fans couldn’t get enough of the hunk. When he came backstage to present an award, at least three girls stopped him and insisted on getting clicked together.

Celina Jaitley, who had recently attended a New Year bash in London, talked about her experience. “It was a black-tie event with the women dressed in gowns. I did the countdown to the accompaniment of Bond’s signature tune with a gigantic confetti-filled crystal ball as seen in his films,” she said.

Shimit Amin, with his long locks shorn off and the beard gone, was almost unrecognisable. He came at the allotted time, went on stage and after the deed was done, left to attend a family function.

Mugdha Godse kept walking in and out of the room giving a tantalising glimpse of her long legs. “I don’t want to miss any part of the show,” said the nominee of the Best Supporting Role (Female) award.

Anurag Kashyap was obviously missing Kalki who couldn’t come because she was rehearsing for a play. He kept talking about his free-spirited girlfriend and how happy he was with her.
