Gujarat invites Symbiosis to open campus

Pune The Symbiosis International University has been invited by the Gujarat Government to open its campus there, close to the capital city of Gandhinagar.

Vidya Yeravdekar, principal director of Symbiosis signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the secretary of Gujarat education department to set up a campus in Gujarat. The campus will be spread across 30 acres and will come up in the next three years. The MoU was signed at the event ‘Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Meet 2009’ arranged by the Gujarat Government.

“In the first phase, we will start the engineering and technology courses,” said Yerawadekar. “The Gujarat Government is developing knowledge city in 1,500 acres and we are pushing to get the land in the area. After engineering, we will start courses in management, information technology, media studies and design and health sciences in the next two phases,” she said.

“We have already got a no objection certificate from the UGC to start the campus and Symbiosis will be the first deemed university based outside Gujarat to start its campus there,” said Yerawadekar. “We feel happy to be invited by the Gujarat Government and to mark our journey in Gujarat as well, after Maharashtra, Bangalore, Noida (U.P.) and Hyderabad,” said Yerawadekar.
