Gandhinagar, February 1 The two BJP-ruled states of Gujarat and Rajasthan have proposed to set up a joint task force to check the growing incidence of unauthorised transportation of cows through the state borders, and also to keep a strict vigil on illegal cow slaughtering.

The proposed joint task force will also work towards developing a technology based on cow urine and dung and improving the economy of animal breeders. Rajendra Singh Rajpurohit, chairman of the Rajasthan Goseva Ayog announced here on Friday.

“Gandhiji was the first person to initiate the cow protection drive and give an inspiring slogan — Cow service is service to the Nation — to the people of our country. Hence, it's the duty of every citizen to protect the cow and its progeny and encourage its breeding”, he said.

Rajpurohit demanded that the National Cattle Commission lying defunct for the last three years, for want of a chairman, should be immediately revived, and the National Meat Board, whose activities are “dangerous to ‘Bharatiya’ culture”, be immediately abolished.

He also took a swipe at the Animal Welfare Board of India for taking “more care of dogs rather than cows”. He said, at present, the Goseva Ayog exists only in nine states, adding that such bodies should be set up across the country.

He emphasised on the importance of cow milk, and cited an interesting instance.

“Our senior BJP leader and former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was suffering from Parkinson's disease. A team of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had been fielded to treat Shekhawatji. Even medical experts from abroad had been summoned. But, all of them failed to bring relief to the former Vice President. Later, we suggested him to milch a Tharparkar cow — an indigenous popular breed from Rajasthan. We sent a cow of this breed to Delhi. As he began milching the cow for a week, his muscles affected by the Parkinson's disease were cured”.

He said the Rajasthan Goseva Ayog would soon set up a sanctuary on the sprawling 1.25 lakh bighas of land in Jaisalmer district to give shelter to orphan calves. There are also plans to set up a Kamdhenu Employment Guarantee Scheme and a Kamdhenu University in Rajasthan. “I will suggest Modiji to do this in Gujarat, too”, he said.
