Ahmedabad The All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) plans to celebrate the bicentenary of Charles Darwin, who was born on February 12, 1809. The group has come out with a plan for yearlong celebrations involving students, teachers and rational-minded people.

An exhibition on the life and works of Darwin will be held on Wednesday next to the statue of social reformer Narmad, near Gujarat University from 11 am to 4 pm, said AIDSO secretary Bhavik Raja.

He said a documentary film would also be screened on Darwin in Narmad-Meghani Library near Meethkhali Crossing at 6 pm. Thereafter, a slideshow will be held where journalist Urvish Kothari will speak.

On Saturday, the exhibition will be held in H K Arts College. The events are being organised in association with Cultural Educational Forum and Darwin Bi-Centenary Committee.

At M S University, the Darwin Centenary Committee will conduct a meeting-cum-discussion on Friday, said Raja. The same day, Professor Babubhai Desai will organise a programme in Surat.
