For the second time in three months, the Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) witnessed gunfire when a 19-year-old youth fired a round at the Railway personnel with a country-made revolver in the wee hours of Saturday. No one was hurt in the incident. The accused, Rajesh Munna Tomar, was apprehended while trying to flee.

The incident happened at 1.45 am when the Railway police officials on night duty were patrolling the station and conducting security checks. “A youth in a black jacket had alighted from a train on platform number 7 and instead of heading to the nearest exit towards the main entrance he proceeded towards the end of the platform. Noticing that we had spotted him he started walking fast and jumped across the tracks and went to platform number 5,” said Police Inspector Manoj Saindre, who was on night duty on Saturday.

Police constable Raju Dekhne was at platform number 7 when he spotted the youth. He had immediately alerted his colleague positioned at the opposite end to close in on him. “I cornered the youth. He took out a country-made revolver and pointed it at me. Instinctively, I brushed him off and asked him to keep the weapon inside. He obeyed but suddenly began to run,” said Dekhne.

Sensing trouble, the police personnel at the station chased him and the youth had fired a round at them. “He kept crossing the tracks and jumping from one platform to the other. When he realised that we were about to nab him, he fired at us. However, no one was injured. We nabbed him at platform number 18, towards the end of the station,” said Saindre. The police seized the revolver and a live round from him.
