Gurpurab celebrated with fervour

Ludhiana, January 5 Gurpurab was celebrated with fervour to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh today. Devotees who started streaming into various gurdwaras in the city since morning were regaled with shabad kirtan by raagis, and were later served with Guru ka Langar.

At Gurdwara Singh Sabha Model Town extension, Giani Puran Singh and Giani Amir Singh of Jawadi Taksal recited shabads. While addressing the gathering on this occasion, Avtar Singh Makkar, president of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) asked the devotees to follow the path shown by Guru Gobind Singh and adopt Sikhism with spirit of “Amrit chhako, singh sajo and guru ke bano”.

Mohinderjit Singh, general secretary of the gurdwara, said that various competitions were held to inculcate the spirit of Sikhism in children. Earlier, a historical drama was shown to the devotees which highlighted the evils prevailing in society.

Gurpurab was also celebrated at Ram Lal Bhasin Public School where Akriti spoke about life and achievements of Guru Gobind Singh. Abhishek highlighted the sacrifices made by Guru Gobind Singh while some other children recited shabad. In the end, parsad was distributed to the students and the staff. S. Verma, director of the school congratulated all on the the occasion.

At Sat Paul Mittal school also, the celebrations started with a recitation of shabad by class VI students. The teachers apprised the students about the importance of Gurpurab. Speeches reflecting on the life of Guru Gobind Singh were delivered by the students. The function ended with soulful shabad sung by class V students. Lt. Col D.B. Sharma, the school director, advised children to follow the path shown by great people in order to lead the country to heights of glory.

Kapoor Hospital and Oriental Bank of Commerce organised a free medical check-up camp at Gurdwara Dashmesh, Pita Chnader Nagar, to mark the occasion. People were distributed medicines free- of-cost at the camp.
