Vadodara Ankleshwar GIDC police in Bharuch district are flummoxed over a case of cyber crime, involving 22 hackers from various parts of the country. These offenders hacked into a Bank of Baroda (BoB) account belonging to Gujarat Informatics Limited (GIL) and stole Rs 7.39 lakh over a period of one month. Ankleshwar Deputy Superintendent of Police B Ninama is still clueless as to how hacking takes place in cyberspace.

However, Ninama and his men, with the help of IT professionals from Ankleshwar and Bharuch, have been able to prepare a list of nine people who allegedly hacked into the account of GIL — a company providing e-connectivity — within two days of the complaint being filed. “It is a complicated matter and we do not have the required technology to trace the culprits or find out how hacking takes place. But with whatever help we could get from the bank and company officials, we have been able to generate a list of 15 people who have over the period of one month hacked into the account of Gujarat Informatics Limited,” said Ninama, who is handling such a case for the first time.

According to the Ankleshwar GIDC police, the case came to light when the company officials registered a complaint with the BoB. In it, the company officials said that between December 1, 2008 and January 2, 2009, the accused hacked the passwords of the bank accounts and got away with Rs 7.39 lakh.
