Police sub inspector D L Dantulwar, the investigating officer of the case, said the company had undertaken the concretisation work of the road according to the instructions of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
“If the accused had displayed a warning board saying ‘Turn right — road work in progress,’ the mishap could have been avoided,” Dantulwar added. “The deceased fell into a one-foot depression on the under-construction concrete road. He collapsed on the cement road and died on the spot.”
The deceased, a III Year B Com student at Indira College in Wakad, was a native of Itarasi in Madhya Pradesh. He had come to Pune three years ago for studies and was residing at Rohan Garima Society on Senapati Bapat Road. The police said Abhishekh was riding his motorcycle towards his college hostel in Chinchwad. The mishap took place at around 12 am when his bike slipped over the depression on the concrete road near Padmaji Paper Mill.
Dantulawar said that he would interrogate the site supervisors and PCMC officers who were responsible for the negligence.
