The charges against Shashank Anand were filed on the basis of a complaint by his wife Dipti Singh, a Sub Divisional Magistrate at Gangolihaat in Uttarakhand.
In her complaint to the Pithoragarh police recently, Dipti had accused her husband and in-laws of demanding dowry, abusing her caste and torture. It is learnt that besides Shashank, the police have also booked his sister and mother.
A case in the matter was registered on January 28 at the Berinag police station.
Dipti had said she married Shashank after a four-year courtship. The marriage took place on May 29, 2007, in a civil court in East Delhi. She said the relation between them started souring after the marriage. She said Shashank never took her to his home and her in-laws had been harassing her for dowry.
The complainant had stated that in June 2008, she had lodged a complaint with the Kurukshetra police also, where Shashank was posted at that time. She alleged that on December 25 last year Shashank had came to
Gangolihaat with a friend, threatened her and made casteist remarks.
Superintendent of Police (Pithoragarh) Puran Singh Rawat said, “A case has been registered and we will record statements.”
