Of the twenty children, three lucky youngsters will get the opportunity of representing their country at climate meetings in London, in March 2008 and in Kobe, Japan in May 2008. The Kobe meeting is more important because the environmental ministers of the G8+5 countries will attend this meeting to discuss their individual strategies to tackle climate change,” adds Guha.
British Council invites all 16- 18 year olds who care about the issue of Climate Change and are passionate about spreading the message to communities. “It’s very important to sensitise our youngsters to this issue. After all, as the future citizens of the world, they will have to deal with it more than us,”says Guha.
Applicants will have to prepare a special news report on climate change issues in India. The report must be an original work and the twenty of the best report writers will be selected as Indian Climate Champions.
Interested youngsters can visit www. britishcouncil .org .in or write to Sanjay Sarkar, Manager, Projects, British Council, 16 Camac Street, L&T Chambers, Kolkata 7000017.
