Lucknow Haryana won the overall championship in the ‘Gramin Olympic Sports’ organised at Juggaur village, near Chinhat, Lucknow from November 12 to 15. Hosts Uttar Pradesh occupied the second place while Punjab stood third.

Two sports events were organised on Sunday. Ram Singh stood first in the 100m race organised for the pradhans, sarpanchs and BDC members. M Hanif and Keval Krishan Singh occupied the second and third spots, respectively. In the Lathi ki pattebazi (a defence art), the demonstrations of M Iqbal, Sanjay and Pawan were applauded by the spectators.

The meet was organised by the UP Non-Olympic Association (UPNOA) with a view to promote traditional Indian sports and encourage cultural intermingling among the village folk.
