Haryana budget for adventure sports increased

Chandigarh The Haryana government has decided to increase the budget for adventurous sports to Rs 40 lakh keeping in view the growing interest of women in these sports. Last year, 45 per cent of women players of the state participated in the adventurous sports.

A spokesman of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department said the highest number of adventurous sports was organised during the current financial year. As many as 900 sportspersons of the state participated in adventurous activities, out of which the number of women participants were 400.

The department had organised many adventurous activities during the year in view of the rising interest of youth and also for the all-round development of their personalities. For the first time, the department would organise snow skiing in Narkanda in Himachal Pradesh in January this year. Earlier, the department had organised basic water sports in Pongdam, mountaineering in Narkanda and trekking in McLeodganj.
