Chandigarh The Haryana government on Thursday proposed to give Rs 20 lakh per acre for sandy land and Rs 32 lakh per acre for irrigated land to the farmers whose land is being acquired for setting up a nuclear power plant at Gorakhpur village in Fatehabad district.

The compensation was calculated at a meeting chaired by Commissioner, Hisar division, M P Bansal. The meeting was also attended by the officials of Nuclear Power Plant Corporation of India.

It was proposed that in addition to this land compensation, the oustees would also be given an annuity of Rs 21,000 per acre for 33 years with an annual fixed increase of Rs 750 as per Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy-2010, besides giving priority to eligible wards of farmers in jobs.

State government officials said the rates had been proposed, keeping in view market rates of the land, and floor rates fixed by the government. “After a detailed discussion at the meeting, it was proposed to give land compensation to the farmers,” Bansal said. The nuclear power plant would be of 2,800 MW capacity, and four units of 700 MW each would be established in this plant. The land for the plant is being acquired from three villages: Gorakhpur, Baropal and Kajalheri. Haryana would get 65 per cent of the electricity generated by the plant.
