Chandigarh A meeting on reciprocal agreement between Haryana and UT Chandigarh was held under the chairmanship of UT secretary (Transport) Ram Niwas today. The members decided to have a detailed draft agreement, covering aspects like the grant of a goods carriage permit (temporary and non-temporary) contract carriage permits to tourist taxis.

It was further decided to implement a uniform corridor system with a view to facilitate public convenience. Both the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking and Haryana Roadways will identify three points to start the public transport system between Panchkula and Chandigarh and vice-versa. The matter, however, will be examined in detail after the proposal is submitted.

They also decided to continue with the number of inter-state buses, plying between Haryana and Chandigarh at present.

Considering the UT’s decision to phase out the existing auto-rickshaws running on petrol/ diesel by August 31 this year, Haryana too, agreed to start a similiar system, where auto-rickshaws will be run on LPG/ CNG.

The modalities in this regard will be formulated by both the governments.

Others present on the occasion included the Haryana transport commissioner, general manager, Roadways Chandigarh (Haryana), joint commissioner, State Transport Authority, Haryana.
