As part of the Rs 4 crore project, the building will get new flooring, air-conditioning, false ceilings, a proper light system with 100 per cent CFL lights and a sound system. An architect has been called from Mumbai for consultation.
“Renovation was being planned for almost a year but the plan could take shape only recently,” said a PWD (B and R) official.
He added, “We called in an architect from Mumbai, Prem Nath, in October. Renovation is scheduled to be over before the Vidhan Sabha session in March.”
“The entire building, including the main Assembly hall, ruling party, visitors, VIP and press lobbies will be renovated,” he said.
Apart from this, the kitchen has also been completely modernised and the main canteen and washrooms have been made more spacious, he said. Special care has also been taken not to disturb the heritage status of the building.
So the main colour scheme of the building has been kept intact, said the official. He said the light system has also been strengthened with the installation energy efficient CFL tubes.
“For the last two months, the around 300 employees of the Vidhan Sabha, including the speaker’s office, were shifted due to ongoing renovation work. Though there will be some minor changes in the design but the main design will not be touched at all,” said the official.
He said the employees of the Vidhan Sabha have been working in the corridors with their huge bundles of files
in tow.
