Haryana win Shakuntala Mishra cricket trophy

Lucknow Haryana defeated Karnataka by six wickets in the final to bag the top honours in the 8th Dr Shakuntala Mishra Memorial Inter State Cricket Tournament for the visually impaired at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here on Sunday. The highlight of the Karnataka innings was an unbeaten 147 run second wicket partnership between Prakash (73 not out) and skipper Shekhar Naik (77 not out). Ganesh with an unbeaten 66 was the top run-getter for Haryana. The tournament was organised by the Dr Shakuntala Mishra Smriti Sewa Sansthan, Lucknow.

Former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev was the chief guest in the final match. Former cricketer Chetan Sharma, who is BSP candidate from Faridabad, was the special guest on the occasion. SC Mishra, president of the Shakuntala Mishra Smriti Sewa Sansthan and BSP general secretary Akhilesh Das Gupta also graced the occasion.

Brief Scores:Karnataka: 185 for one in 20 overs ( Shekhar Naik 77 not out, Prakash 73 not out);

Haryana: 188 for four in 18.2 overs (Ganesh Ganvit 66 not out, Ganesh Bushara 32, Dinesh Kumar 20 not out, Shubhash Boa 20, Karan Singh 14; Mallikarjun 1 for 57).

Man-of-the-match: Ganesh Ganvit (Haryana).

Police athletics
REPUTED level athletes Paramjit Singh, Ajit Pal Singh, Baldev Singh, Navpreet Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Samerjit Singh and Jatashanker Mishra practiced hard on the freshly spruced up synthetics tracks of 35th Bn PAC, Mahanagar, here on Sunday. They will be participating in the 57th All India Police Athletics Meet to be held at the same venue from February 10 to 14.
