Ludhiana, February 6 PAU Additional Director of Communication Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman has emphasised upon the need for more coverage of agricultural programmes. He was participating in the Advisory Committee meeting of Prasar Bharti (Doordarshan), held at Jalandhar.

Dr Dhiman highlighted that though a number of private TV channels are operational, programmes devoted to farm-oriented activities are not adequate. He pointed out that all the persons concerned with agricultural promotion including scientists, farmer bodies and development agencies, are eager for a better focus to issues concerning agriculture. He said that Doordarshan could consider framing an exclusive agricultural channel that should also cover rural development.

Dr Dhiman informed that the PAU has planned a series of activities dedicated to the legendary Dr MS Randhawa, and suggested the Doordarshan to cover them. He highlighted several issues concerning agricultural ventures, and added that the Kisan Melas to be held in March should be covered well by the media. Dr Dhiman also pointed out that the success stories of progressive farmers recognized by PAU should be filmed, so that other farmers can follow them.

ML Tikoo, Station Engineer and Surinder Pal, Deputy Director of Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar said that these suggestions will be considered while formulating programmes for farmers. They appreciated the role of PAU in promoting agriculture in the state through its education, research and transfer of technology programmes. The Chief Manager of Punjab Mandi Board, Shamsher Singh Randhawa and representatives from different developmental agencies of the state and banks also participated in the Advisory Committee meeting. Hardial Singh and Dr Lakhvinder Johl, programme producers, were the coordinators of the meeting.
