Chandigarh, January 5 Police claim the four Babbar Khalsa International activists, who were picked up from various parts of Punjab and Haryana recently, were mobilised by terrorist Jagtar Singh Hawara.

Though Punjab and Chandigarh police officers could not trace the movement of the four BKI activists while they were still at large, information seems to be flowing freely after their arrest. Police claim after escaping from Burail jail, Hawara got in touch with Baljeet Singh, one of the four arrested, and asked him to mobilise youngsters to create disturbance in the region.

The special wings of Punjab and Chandigarh police have not ruled out that the four BKI activists had met Hawara and Paramjit Singh Bheora, both of whom were found guilty in the Beant Singh assassination case.

At present, the four BKI activists, Tarlochan Singh, Bikkar Singh, Baljeet Singh alias Bhau and Kulwinderjit Singh, are in the custody of Delhi Police.

In a press conference in Delhi yesterday, Delhi Police said that Baljeet Singh had provided Hawara with logistic support after his escape from Burail jail.

Sources said the duo became friends when Baljeet was lodged in Burail jail in a cheating case. Baljeet was arrested in 2005 for aiding Jagtar Singh Hawara and was lodged in Nabha jail.

There, he came in contact with Daya Singh Lahoria, a top militant of the Khalistan Liberation Front, who was also running a drug racket from jail, said police.

Baljeet, who was supposedly leading the other three, was arrested on Friday.

He, too, is learnt to have come in contact with Satnam Singh, son-in-law of Wadhawa Singh, in Germany for support and further course of action. Satnam Singh is supposed to have been guiding Hawara.

“The BKI got a tremendous boost after the sensational escape by Hawara, Jagtar Singh Tara and Bheora. The jailbreak became a motivation for youth, who had even the slightest affiliations with anti-social elements...,” said a senior police officer of the Operations Cell.
