HC directs EC to probe voter list malpractice

Kolkata The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed Chief Electoral(CEO) Officer of West Bengal as well as Election Commission of India to conduct an inquiry into the case of three persons whose names were registered in the voter list of more than one Assembly seat. Birendra Kishore Saha, an assistant engineer of PWD filed a PIL last week alleging that Tumpa Chakraborty alias Tumpa Gupta and Satyendra Mohan Gupta, resident of Sonarpur enlisted their name in the voter list under Sonarpur and Jadavpur assembly segment. Similarly, Giridhari Saha, a resident of Nabadwip in Nadia had enlisted his name in the voter list of more than one assembly segment, the petitioner claimed. The Division Bench directed CEO, West Bengal to file a report in two months.
