The PIL, which was filed last year, aimed at providing basic amenities to the residents of Panchkula. The petitioner has sought directions from the court to HUDA, MC, government of Haryana and the Deputy Commissioner to ensure construction of damaged roads, poor sanitation, functioning of streetlights and controlling the perpetual menace of stray animals.
Haryana Advocate General Hawa Singh Hooda, appearing on behalf of a Haryana law officer, today stated in court that steps are being taken for improving the condition of basic amenities in Panchkula city. He also apprised the court that a sum of Rs 13 crore has been released to HUDA to ensure development in the city.
It was further assured by Hooda that the needful will be done by April this year. It might be recalled that Advocate A R Takkar was appointed as amicus curiae by the court in the case and was also asked to submit a report in this regard. Broken roads, poor garbage disposal and a faulty sewage treatment plant were the salient features of a neglected Panchkula highlighted in the report given by Takkar.
