Issuing a notification, the Calcutta High Court said it would hear cases up to 4.30 pm instead of 4.15 pm.
The decision came after the appointment of new Chief Justice M S Shah, who took over on December 24, 2008.
The Bar Association of the Calcutta High Court, however, said an extra 15 minutes will not help much. Amjad Ali, the Association’s president, said it works out to an additional 75 minutes per week, adding the problem would be solved if judges are in their seats on time.
Bhaskar Sen, the president of the Bar Library Club, said increasing the court’s duration will certainly help and blamed litigants and advocates for delay in the disposal of cases.
