Kolkata The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday asked the state government to come up with a fresh petition on recruitment of policemen. A Division Bench of Chief Justice Mohit S Shah and Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta said that it would hear the case on Wednesday.

Earlier, hearing a PIL filed by advocate Subroto Mookherjee, the Division Bench observed that the recruitment of police was urgently required in view of the security threat to the state. Mookherjee said that the government should recruit policemen considering the present security scenario in the state.

After hearing the PIL on Friday, the Division Bench directed the State Home Secretary Samar Ghosh to file an affidavit on the present status of the recruitment of police in the state.

Ghosh said in the affidavit that the state government took the initiative to recruit constables in the West Bengal Police but it was stalled due to an order passed by State Administrative Tribunal in April.
