Kolkata The Calcutta High Court asked the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to apprise it on the time frame for setting up clinic for Malaria in 141 wards. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation expressing concern on the outbreak of malaria, a KMC counsel said that the civic body decided to carry out a programme for early detection of malaria.

The KMC set up testing centres in 85 wards, he said. In 1998, the Centre had asked the KMC to implement the Malaria Role Back Programme assisted by the Union Health Ministry.

Following this, the KMC received Central funds for implementing the programme. The High Court, meanwhile, also observed that the Central assistance should be increased.
