Ambala The Development Officer of HDFC Bank, Darshan Tayagi, was arrested by the Ambala Cantonment Police today in connection with the case of alleged fraud committed by the bank.

Confirming the arrest, SHO Dharamvir said that on receiving a complaint by the Regional Headquarters’ Loan Officer of the bank, Hargopal Singh Sodhi, the police found prime facie evidence of misappropriation of loan money, thus cheating over 800 farmers and other people who had taken loans from the Centurion Bank of Punjab, which has since been merged with the HDFC.

Earlier, loan takers of Centurion Bank of Punjab held demonstration against the bank authorities for the alleged misappropriation of refund money, amounting to crores of rupees, today.

They alleged that they had been receiving notices despite the fact that they had cleared all dues. The aggrieved persons had come from distant places of Haryana and Punjab.

The bank authorities however, tried to pacify the agitators and told them that the bank had ordered an inquiry into the alleged scandal involving crores of rupees.

Meanwhile, bank official Ram Chandran, heading the audit team which had reached here to look into the allegations, assured the agitators that those who had deposited the money and had its proofs “need not worry”.
