Ludhiana A winner of many accolades at the state and the national level, city lad Amanpreet Singh has proven his mettle. A student of BBA at the Guru Nanak Institute of Management, he says, “My first target is to win in the Asian games and then I will set my eyes on the Olympics.”

Hard work and perseverance helped this weightlifter win a gold medal at National Games 2008 held at Sangali in Maharastra last year where he had participated in the 105-kg open category.

Amanpreet Singh, who draws inspiration from his paternal uncle Hardeep Singh, practices for three hours every day. He has found company in his friend and cousin Harjot Singh. “Rigorous training of more than three hours daily keeps me on the fast track. I am lucky to have my uncle as my coach. He is a former international weightlifter.”

A follower of conventional wisdom to eat high-calorie natural diet, this budding weightlifter says, “Eating a balanced diet is a must for any game. I prefer to have a natural diet, like chicken, milk, eggs and of course green vegetables and grains.”

An alumnus of Harkrishan Public School, he juggles his studies and passion rather well. “Though I want to be a professional weightlifter, I would like to do an MBA as well. I study for two hours every day.”

And ask him the mantra of his stupendous success, he smiles and says, “Think positive and work hard with a focussed mind.”
