Ludhiana Literary and social activities are an integral part of Karamjit Grewal’s life. Teaching Punjabi at Government High School Kheri-Jhameri (in Ludhiana district), he spends his spare time penning songs and street plays.

With four books to his credit, his book “Chhad ke school meinu aa’ has won him the Sarvotaam Bal Puruskar from the Punjabi Sahit Akademi.

Through his works, he vividly depicts the teacher-taught relationship. He also focuses on various social evils such as female foeticide, environment and drug abuse.

Associated with a few non-governmental organisations like Shaheed Bhagat Singh Manch, Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Jattha, Bahurang Sabhayachar Club, he says “People ask me to write a song or play on a particular theme. I feel very happy when I give practical shape to my ideas by dramatising them.”

A resident of Lalton Kalan village, Grewal has been involved in social work since childhood. He said, “My love for environment started when I was a student. Villagers used to clean Congress grass and we also joined them. Later, this experience helped me in making the people aware of the importance of a clean and green environment. Even now, I lend a helping hand in community work. Many a times I counsel village youngsters about their problems.”
